QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

 

  1. Does the Dixon-Hightower Foundation only do work in African countries?

    • For the moment our work is focused on countries where we have visited, assessed the need, and found national staff to oversee the project. Up to now, this has involved African countries over the last 10 years. However, we are open for collabortion around the world.

  2. Are my donations tax deductible in the USA?

    • Yes, the Dixon-Hightower Foundation is a register 501c3 US Federal nonprofit organization based in California, USA. Federal EIN: 46-0744407

  3. May I donate through methods other than the internet (Paypal or PayPal Giving Fund)?

    • Yes. 

      1. Checks or money orders may be sent directly to 2010 A Harbison Drive, PMB 608, Vacaville, CA 95688, USA)

      2. If you purchase any of the books written by our founder, Dr. Joyce D. Hightower, or Dr. Joyce Dixon Hightower i.e., Come Walk with Me, No Shadow of Turning, the proceeds go to enhance our projects: (Please a find a copy on your favorite online book seller, e.g., Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, etc.)

  4. Is it possible to donate by postal mail?

    • Yes, we happily accept donations by mail. Please view our Donate page to view how to donate by mail, as well as all other possible channels. 

  5. May I donate gifts in kind and/or something non monetary?

    • We do have continual Volunteer Opportunities for specifically skilled individuals to intervene at specific project sites. However, regarding gifts in kind, we have found that unless items are not available in country, it is more sustainable in terms of budget and implementation to purchase items locally.

  6. May I specify the sub-project I want my donation to go towards?

    • Yes, you simply need to note the appropriate project/sub-project on the 'note' line of your check or money order, when post mailing your donation.​ Online selection are made by choosing an option from the dropdown menu under when donating through Paypal

  7. Will I receive a receipt for my donation?

    • Yes, a summary statement will be mailed to you by January 31st of the following calendar year.

  8. What percent of donations actually go towards DHF projects?

    • Dixon-Hightower Foundation is fortunate to have administrative and operational work performed by volunteers. After the deduction of the minimal cost for annual filing in conformity with federal and California regulations for a charitable organization, we use 100% of the remaining money donated to support our project activities.

  9. May I volunteer my time and skill to a project?

    • Yes, if you are interested in volunteering please visit our Volunteer page, complete the form, and we will notify you of local and international opportunities as they become available. 

  10. The US Department of State warns USA citizens against travel to parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (as of 01/2016), how does this impact your work?

    • Most of the work and coordination of activities is performed by our local staff who are nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the work is not impacted by travelers from the outside.

    • The Solid Rock Youth Complex is located in an area of the Democratic Republic of Congo away from the boarder and the constant fighting.

  12. Do you have a phone number?

    • No. We wish to maintain the lowest overhead costs, which allow us a greater budget for those we seek to serve. Additionally, as we work in the field through different countries and time zones, it is more efficacious to be available through the email and and our contact page.
